Looking back on the weddings that have graced inRegister’s pages

Love is in the details, and weddings are where the thoughtfully curated elements that celebrate them shine. From commemorating a couple’s first date spot to honoring long-held family traditions, weddings are studded with small aspects that mean something big. That’s why when Wanda Horn and Chris Russo Blackwood started inRegister, they included wedding features in every edition. Each feature offers insights into the love story and wedding of a couple, creating a permanent record to look back upon. To celebrate 35 years of the lovely little details, let’s look back on some that became instant classics.

1951

Baton Rouge native Mrs. Robert Thomas Collier, formerly Claire Brechtel, was the first bride to be featured on the cover of The Register in an ad for wedding photographer “Jan.” The Colliers were married for 64 years and had five children, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

1993

Sisters Melanie Kennon McGavran and Suzanne Kennon Hughes happily shared their special day on October 10, 1992, as featured in the January 1993 issue of inRegister. With three sixpences each, the brides said “I do” at First Presbyterian Church before celebrating with friends and family from 18 states and England at Baton Rouge Country Club.

1999

Weddings are grand celebrations, but it can be difficult to fully celebrate in the absence of loved ones. Leah Salsbury and Brian Duval began their future by paying respects to Dallas Salsbury, the bride’s late father, and Mark Salsbury, her late brother. In addition to carrying precious mementos, she ran last-minute errands in her father’s 1986 Dodge 600 convertible and posed for bridal portraits in his 1971 Challenger dubbed “Black Beauty.”

2001

When the youngest member of the family gets married, it’s an emotional time for parents. From the daddy-daughter dance to her dress, when Katelin Graves married Lee Walker in 2001, she made every moment extra special while wearing her mother’s wedding dress from 1964.

2006

Lauren Barksdale and Carter Hill left their Capital City wedding honeymoon-bound in a white Model T, complete with the Capitol in the background for a classic Baton Rouge wedding moment.

2009

In 2008, Lauren Bailey and Steele Pollard married in a ceremony of timeless elegance. Her dress, which utilized a unique shape and a Champagne hue, became an instant classic. It comes as no surprise that Lauren is the owner of Perkins Road boutique Edit by LBP, which offers a curated selection of timelessly chic clothing and accessories.

2017

Megan Honoré Barcelo’s veil stole the show in this wedding portrait with groom Halston Barcelo from their wedding day, featured in the 2017-2018 inRegister Weddings issue. The breathtaking photograph shows off the full length—and intricate detail—of the veil, a detail that often goes unnoticed once the ceremony is over.

2024

What’s better than saying “I do” in your hometown? Though the 2024-2025 inRegister Weddings cover couple met and live in Dallas, Sarah Beth Saffell and Hayden Fronterhouse felt Baton Rouge calling. To pay tribute to their Dallas roots, the couple took formal portraits at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden a few months after their big day.
