A cathedral-inspired architecture creates a wow-factor in this dining room

When designing this home, design professional Jeff Taaffe, architecture firm Hollingsworth Design and RMB Builders wanted the dining room to capture attention as soon as guests walked in the front door. “The groin vault was a perfect fit for this space because it’s a symmetrical, four-sided design element,” Taaffe explains.

“The weight of the brick combined with the drama of the repeated arches gave us the punch we were looking for.” Because the room has three doorways, Taaffe chose the mirrored wall as an impactful solution for achieving visual symmetry. Katherine Post of Hollingsworth Designs says some of the inspiration for the space came from Gothic architecture, like that seen in old New Orleans cathedrals.
