Fairies, flowers and plenty of fun, this second birthday party was pure magic

It didn’t take Kakie Knaps long to decide on a theme for her daughter Katherine’s second birthday party. It had to be fairies!

“Katherine loves being outside, and she and her sister, Mary Mitchell, have a fairy garden of their own that they love to play with, so I thought this would be the perfect theme,” she says.

Using parts of the girls’ existing fairy garden, lanterns, fairy lights and of course, butterflies, Knaps created an idyllic fairyland scene for the party. Upon arrival, each guest received fairy wings and flower crowns to get into character.

Because Katherine has a little spunk, Knaps leaned away from pastels and into a brighter color scheme for the rest of the décor. She used pinks and greens to match the mosses and butterflies, along with some red to coordinate with the classic toadstools found in every fairy garden.

Since Knap owns a custom stationery business, the invitations were an easy part of the party. “I painted our little red-headed girl as a fairy and added some whimsical touches,” she says.

And while the adorable theme made the birthday celebration fairy special, Knaps says it was the whole family coming together that made the day complete.

“I love that everyone chips in a little something and it becomes so magical,” she says. “From food made by family, photos taken by Katherine’s talented Aunt KK, the cutest fairy house decorated with help from my sweet littles, to the cutest mushroom bud vases borrowed from a friend, each detail came together because we all did!”

Knaps notes that she is so grateful to be surrounded by so many creative women, including her mother-in-law, who helped in large part with the party’s planning and execution, and she hopes to pass that magical feeling on to her daughters. “It’s not about a massive budget with every perfect detail,” she says. “The only reason any of it is as special as it is is because it’s family who created it.”
