Opened 23 years ago, Zippy’s has long been a Perkins Road Overpass fixture, drawing families and partyers in equal measure. Owner Neal Hendrick recently completed a $1.7 million expansion to keep the spot fresh and relevant, describing the restaurant’s reimagining as somewhere between Irish pub and beach bar. The festive atmosphere is now bedecked in nearly two dozen awning windows, with double the seating and bar space. (Don’t worry, parents. The chalk wall lives!)

While nachos, tacos, burritos and other Tex-Mex options dominate the menu, the grilled shrimp salad is a lighter alternative. Marinated grilled shrimp alight a pile of romaine lettuce, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, grilled onions, bell peppers and black beans. Drizzles of house-made avocado ranch dressing set the flavors off, as do house-pickled sliced jalapeños. Reward your moderation with one of Zippy’s many frozen margaritas.
