Luna Cocina’s Blood Orange Tuna Tartare
With its rooftop seating and sharable menu, springtime is a great time for checking out Luna Cocina, the five-month-old modern Tex-Mex concept in the Perkins Road Overpass District. Along with festive street tacos, fajitas and zhuzhed nachos, the spot features cool crudo offerings, like Blood Orange Tuna Tartare. Owner Faris Salameh says the dish was inspired by Luna Cocina’s exclusive use of fresh fruit juices in cocktails.
“We were looking for another way to use blood oranges,” he says. Fresh tuna, avocado and chunks of blood orange are dressed with a combination of soy sauce, Cholula hot sauce, sriracha and blood orange juice, then topped with flash-fried leeks, fresh jalapeno and pomegranate seeds. “It’s something that has honestly become so popular,” Salameh says. “At least 80% of our tables on a busy night have at least one on the table.”
