LSU’s summer jazz series starts tonight
School is out for summer, but that doesn’t mean the campus is quiet. On four evenings this month, the LSU School of Music will host the Hot Summer Nights, Cool Jazz series at the Recital Hall. The revelry kicks off tonight, Thursday, June 16, as the resident Hot Summer Nights quartet—which includes LSU music professors and accomplished musicians Willis Deloney, Bill Grimes, Brian Shaw and Troy Davis—plays alongside saxophonist Brad Walker, an LSU alumnus.
Tomorrow, Friday, June 17, Minneapolis-based jazz vocalist Connie Evingson will bring her identifiable, smoky voice to the stage with “The Great American Songbook.” The Hot Summer Nights quartet will return to the stage with saxophonist Rex Gregory next Thursday, June 23. The series concludes next Friday, June 24, as Louis Armstrong’s All-Stars and featured vocalist Jewel Brown transports the audience back to the 1950s.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students with a valid ID. To buy tickets, call 225-578-3527 or click here.
