Not everyone wants to go out on the town this weekend, so why not take a leisurely stroll through the Louisiana Arts and Science museum, instead? One of the museum’s Main Gallery exhibits, Sun Light/Star Light: Contemplations on the Solar Orb, will be packed away after Jan. 3, so anyone with an appreciation for art and the science of space should stop by before it leaves forever.

Presented in honor of the International Year of Light, this multi-artist exhibit allows a glimpse into how humans think about the sun—a fascination for civilizations through the ages—in terms of its aesthetic, scientific and even spiritual dimensions. Visitors can gaze upon light sculptures, paintings and digital works created by artists from all corners of the earth, from Oslo’s IstadPacini Art Lab to Taro Shinoda’s Tokyo, or catch an immersive art video produced by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center media team. Combined, these works of art provide an atmosphere in which to contemplate our relationship with the science and wonder of the brightest star in the solar system.
